BOYLE IS BONDED Posted: 041318
The director for Bond 25 was a battle between 71’s Yann Demange and Daniel Craig’s personal choice Blade Runner 2049’s Denis Villenueve. Villeneuve was willing but he has his heart set on a new adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune and so he had to pass. He also wanted a break since he hasn’t had one for a few years. So all of a sudden a new director had to be found and surprisingly it’s Trust’s Danny Boyle. The move means a script outline from longtime Bond writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade will be tossed. Boyle got the job after he and Craig bonded (no pun intended) when Boyle directed the opening ceremony for the 2012 London Olympics. Boyle had come up with an idea for a Bond movie that series producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson found interesting. Boyle and screenwriter John Hodge are working out the story beats that Hodge will turn into a screenplay. Production on the last film of Craig’s contract will begin later this year. Bond 25 will be released domestically by MGM and Annapurna. The international rights are being fought out between Warners, Sony and Universal. The international market is where the Bond films make the most money.
