At one point Brendan Fraser was mega hot but suddenly disappeared
from the screen. He is a regular on the FX limited series Trust but no one knew
where he was. He made his debut in the 1990’s comedies Encino Man and Airheads
before becoming a huge action star in the Mummy trilogy. Fraser even showed he
was a great dramatic actor in films such as The Quiet American, Gods and
Monsters and Crash but slipped off the radar. He did some films in which he
wasn’t the star and it looked like he had fallen from grace but in an interview
with GQ Fraser explained where he went. One major reason was a life of doing
your own stunts in a series of films can lead to serious physical issues. By
2007 he was in such bad shape he was covered with ice packs under his clothes.
He ended up with severe spinal problems which he dealt with but having surgery
but a year he was still hurting so he had a second surgery. Fraser then had a
partial knee replacement, needed to have his compressed spinal pads fused
together and had to have his vocal cords fixed. He was interviewed on AOL in
late 2016 and didn’t look comfortable at all since his mother had died of cancer
days before the interview. Another reason was Fraser was groped by Philip Berk,
a former president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association in 2003. Berk
grabbed his ass and fondled it. He asked for and received a not very convincing
apology from the HFPA and Berk. Then suddenly he wasn’t getting any work and the
work he was getting wasn’t up to his standards. Fraser got depressed and that
cost him his marriage. But his comeback began with a well received appearance on
Showtime’s The Affair in 2016, which led to him being cast in Trust and Amazon’s
upcoming Three Days of the Condor TV remake. |
