WELCOME TO ASTRO CITY, JUST LESS OFTEN Posted: 051518
Kurt Busiek and Brent Anderson have decided to turn Astro City into a series of graphic novels instead of being an ongoing comic. According to Busiek the idea for the format change started with Editor Mark Doyle. The comic was doing okay but most fans bought the trades or read the series digitally. He and Anderson didn’t have a problem with that since Kurt was having a hard time getting his scripts in for Anderson and the series guest artists. So a long arc wasn’t possible with Anderson but with the move it is now. We will likely get one 200-page GN a year which is easier that having to get out 288 pages a year. There is no hard plan on what to expect with the new format. One book could contain six individual stories or tell the story in chapters. The first GN will ship in 2019 and is being worked on now. Busiek is also writing the script for a possible TV series based on the comic. There had been interest in turning the comic into a movie but TV is a better format to tell the stories in.
