Archie #700 is coming this fall and with it brings the new creative team
of Secret Empire’s Nick Spencer and Immortal Hulk’s Marguerite Sauvage. Archie
made his debut in 1942 and ended in 2015 with Issue 666. Mark Waid and Fiona
Staples relaunched the series with a new #1, which ended with #32. Archie #699
will be a recap issue that ships in October and cost only $1. Spencer’s take
will be a less mature version of the Riverdale TV series and be more of a soap
opera. A new Betty & Veronica will launch in December from Betty & Veronica:
Vixens’ Jamie L. Rotante and an unnamed artist. Her series will focus on the
duo’s senior year of high school. And those aren’t the only new projects coming
from Archie Comics. Publisher Jon Goldwater says an animated series starring
Josie McCoy (Of Josie & and the Pussycats fame) with horror undertones, a
light-hearted animated series set in Riverdale, and a live-action series
centered on the noir-tinged Archie character, private detective Sam Hill. The
shows will either be on regular TV or through a streaming service. |
