The
first issue of Nick Spencer and Ryan Ottley’s Amazing Spider-Man is on the racks
right now. The team first worked together in the Free Comic Book Day book.
Spencer says the tone of that story will be the tone of the new series. That
story showed Peter Parker meet the roommate Randy Robertson had arranged for
them, Fred Myers, aka Boomerang. Spencer had him as the main character in
Superior Foes of Spider-Man and when he got Amazing he knew Myers had to be a
part of the book. The relationship between the two will be unusual to say the
least. Peter’s relationship with J Jonah Jameson, who now knows his secret
identity, will lurk in the background due to what is going on in Spectacular
Spider-Man but Spencer has a major story in the works involving Jonah. Felicia
Hardy, the Black Cat will be a major part in the series as will Randy Robertson.
The book will introduce some new important faces and reintroduce people who
haven’t been seen for a while but had major potential when they introduced. The
fact that Wilson Fisk is the mayor of New York right now will be a threat
lurking in the background. The first six months of the series will have a light
tone but then flip the script entirely. Spencer’s plan is to slowly reintroduce
a lot of major Spider-Man villains such as Scorpion, Electro, and Vulture but
when they do appear none will be treated as afterthoughts but major threats. He
is also introducing a new threat that will screw up Peter’s life and push him to
his limits. |
