According
to Bleeding Cool word got out that DC was having second thoughts about the
signing of Brian Michael Bendis. Sales on the Superman books are strong but not
much higher than the numbers the Dan Jurgens/Peter Tomasi/Patrick Gleason books
were. Considering the size of the contract and the hype around Bendis they
aren’t selling as well as the Tom King Batman book. His creator owned titles are
the only creator-owned titles published by DC so the company gets the books out
but have no ancillary rights so if they are optioned for TV or movies DC gets
nothing. So to some at DC Bendis is seen as someone hired by Diane Nelson, the
former President of DC, and nothing more. He was getting his own imprint but
rumor has it that the imprint is on hold for now. |
