James Cameron told Vanity Fair more information about the planned
Avatar sequels. He told the magazine that even though it had been reported that
they would make four more films the only thing that’s sure is the second and
third films. Filming on both are done and according to Cameron, “Let’s face it,
if Avatar 2 and 3 don’t make enough money, there’s not going to be a 4 and a 5.
They’re fully encapsulated stories in and of themselves. It builds across the
five films to a greater kind of meta narrative, but they’re fully formed films
in their own right, unlike, say, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, where you really
just had to sort of go, ‘Oh, s–t, all right, well I guess I better come back
next year.’ Even though that all worked and everybody did.” Production on the
sequels took so long because the scripts took four years to get right which
allowed him to get the technical stuff worked out and get the world set up in
the right way. Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang,
Cliff Curtis, and Kate Winslet are all done with their parts in the film. BBC
News has revealed the films will be called: Avatar: The Way of Water, Avatar:
The Seed Bearer, Avatar: The Tulkun Rider and Avatar: The Quest for Eywa.
Granted only two sequels are done with Avatar 2 coming out 12/18/2020, Avatar 3
coming out 12/17/2021 and if things go well Avatar 4 opens 12/20/2024 and Avatar
5 opens 12/19/2025. |
