This afternoon (032020) Illinois Governor JB Pritzker announced a "shelter at
home" order for all non-essential business from Saturday March 21st until
Tuesday April 7th. As per this order, Alternate Reality will close Saturday at
5:00pm and remain closed until 2:00pm Tuesday April 7th. However, because
Saturday is our last day of operation for the next few weeks, we will be running
with special hours...SATURDAY (032120) 9:00AM until 5:00PM Since this will be our last day of operation we encourage anyone who was planning on stopping by the store to shop to do so Saturday. We will be gone after that until early April so it will literally be your "last chance" for a while. I think most of us realized this was coming at some point, the only question has been when. Now that the "Boom Has Been Lowered" on Illinois Business, the next question is where do we go from here? What about 032520 and 040120 comic shipping? As of this writing Diamond has told us that accounts with shipments for stores in areas that have "shelter in place" orders are essentially frozen for the duration. They will not dump three weeks worth of books on Illinois accounts come April 7th but at this time they haven't decided how to break up the 032520 and 040120 invoices. Items will be re-shuffled and parceled out over the subsequent weeks in April but what form that will take is currently up in the air. That's good not just for stores but for our customers as well. The last thing you need Wednesday morning April 8th is to have 3 weeks worth of comics staring at you. Related to this, we will not be doing any Shipshape Updates on the website over the next few weeks. At this time I could post the 032520 shipping, in fact I was working on it this afternoon, but what would be the point. That invoice is essentially scrapped. At this time look for the next Update for the April 8th Ship Date which should go up the previous weekend. What about the March Previews Order? We will accept orders for the March Previews through 5:00pm Saturday. If you've already made an order then you're good and your order will go in. Where can you get store updates? Right here. All announcements concerning Alternate Reality will be made her at the store's website, and then filtered out to various social media outlets. However all announcements will originate from here. In the meantime, please remember to follow these simple steps to battle Covid-19... -Social Distancing, maintain a six foot maximum distance between yourself and others. Wave, give the "Vulcan Greeting" or elbow bump others as a greeting. -Wash, dry, repeat. Wash your hands often. Any surface, any money, any product, keyboard or mouse you handle with you bare hands potentially has the Corvid-19 virus on it. Hand sanitizer is good but a bar of soap and hot water is better. An try to refrain from touching your face. Eyes, mouth ears and nose are all potential entry ways for the virus to get into your body. -If you are sick, stay home. Please do not exit your front door if you are sick or feeling any symptoms, not just for your own sake but for the safety and protection of everyone. Stay healthy, stay safe, this too shall pass.
