MOVIE SENDS WOLVERINE COMIC BASS-ACKWARDS…With X-Men Origins: Wolverine right around the corner Marvel Comics has announced changes to the publishing timeline of Wolverine, in order to make the book more “reader friendly” for all those throngs of new Logan lovers this movie will generate. Marvel will release Wolverine #73 BEFORE Wolverine #72 (which is the continuation of Mark Millar and Steve McNiven’s “Old Man Logan” storyline). With this change look for issue #73 to arrive on May 13, while issue #72 will go on sale May 20. Why the switch? Well, issue #73 from writers Jason Aaron & Daniel Way and artists Adam Kubert & Tommy Lee Edwards features the start of two two-part stories focusing on the character, thus providing the perfect jumping on point for new readers the Wolverine film could help produce. Both stories will be concluded in the pages of Wolverine #74, scheduled to land in stores on May 27. The “Old Man Logan” storyline continuing in May 20’s Wolverine #72 will now conclude in a Giant Size Old Man Logan special, which was announced at this year's New York ComicCon. And if you think this is confusing and bass-ackwards now just wait a few years when you pull these issues back out of your long boxes to re-read and can’t figure out why the a Giant Size Old Man Logan special is in your collection or what the reading order is or why it was changed.

STARLOG CANCELLED…An actual end of an era happened over the weekend as Starlog Magazine announced it would cease publication after 374 issues of continuous publication. The announcement was made on it’s website: “After 33 years, and considering the present state of the economy, we feel it’s time for a major revamp and will be temporarily discontinuing publication while the model and redesign of the magazine are contemplated and executed.” The Starlog Website will continue, and Fangoria will continue to be published. The company has also announced that it will soon begin offering digital editions of the entire run of Starlog magazine. Starlog was founded in August 1976 by Kerry O’Quinn and Norm Jacobs, who ran the magazine for decades. Starlog was the first mass market monthy science fiction/fantasy news magazines to penetrate to national newsstand distribution. Starlog, Fangoria, and other assets were purchased by Creative Group in 2005 who filed for bankruptcy last year. Starlog and Fangoria transferred to the ownership of The Brooklyn Company, run by longtime Fangoria President Thomas DeFeo.

SUPER SKRULL SLIP UP… If you purchased a Bowen Super-Skrull bust from the January Previews get a pen and paper. Apparently there was an unexpected change in the way the final product was packaged at the factory, Bowen Designs' SUPER SKRULL STATUE (JAN094930I) may be easily damaged during the unpacking process unless the new instructions below for unpacking the statue provided by the manufacturer are followed carefully. Bowen Designs reports that , upon receiving office copies of the SUPER SKRULL STATUES - which should reach stores on or before APRIL 8 - they discovered that the factory had used shrink-wrap and tape on the figure's left arm, additional wrapping that was not used on any of the samples that were sent to Bowen Designs for review/approval. To prevent breakage or paint chipping, this figure should be unpacked and assembled with great care, and Bowen has provided specific new instructions for properly opening and initially assembling the statue (below).

INSTRUCTIONS FOR OPENING BOWEN DESIGNS' SUPER SKRULL STATUE

* Open the inner Styrofoam packaging; carefully remove the base and place on level surface.

* Remove figure from packaging and insert into base.

* We recommend using a pair of scissors or sharp knife to cut the shrink-wrap and tape from the figure's left (stretched/flame) arm. The shrink-wrap and cardboard support on the shoulder should remove quite easily. The lower taped area should be removed gently by unwrapping from figure's arm.

* If the tape pulls off paint, and results in the clear resin being visible: Contact the store for additional assistance. Bowen Designs will be working with stores to assist with damages
