SHOW INFO: |
Ring of Honor has brought in so many great tag teams this
year, they have decided to embark on a tournament to find the best of this bunch.
This tournament is being
called "Tag Wars 2010" and will be run over several House Shows in the coming
weeks and months. |
|
MATCH 1: |
The Embassy(Erick Stevens & Necro Butcher) vs. Rasche Brown& Grizzly Redwood |
The match is the continuation of a feud that started when Necro Butcher joined
the Embassy. The match started fast and furious with all 4 men at the start of
the match. Rasche took the early control of the match by nailing Stevens with a
spinning choke slam. The embassy controlled most of the match by keeping Grizzly
in their corner. Stevens press slammed Grizzly out to the floor and Butcher
punched him on the way down. Grizzly regained his bearings and dove from the top
turnbuckle onto Necro and their manager. Stevens picked up the victory for the
Embassy by rolling up Browne and also hooking the tights. |
Match Rating: 2 ¾ stars out of 4. A solid opening match between these two teams.
Neither team have been together for long but still put on a solid match. |
|
MATCH 2: |
Sara Del Ray vs. Amazing Kong |
This match features 2 of the best independent women wrestlers in the world
today. This was a rematch from their bout a couple of months ago. Sara got the
early advantage by attacking Kong’s arm. Kong quickly regained control of the
match by overpowering Del Ray. Kong took and splashed Del Ray’s manager and
accompaniers. Kong picked up a near fall with her Amazing bomb. Del Ray tried to
connect with her royal butterfly. Kong reversed it and turned it into a roll up
for the victory. |
Match Rating: 3 stars out of 4. These 2 women have wrestled each other multiple
times. They can go out and put together a great match. They just delivered a
great energetic match. |
|
MATCH 3: |
House of Truth w/Truth Martini vs. The Briscoe Brothers |
The House of Truth is comprised of Josh Raymond and Christian Able. They wrestle
out of the Chicago area. This match was outstanding from the get go. Each team
traded control of the match several times. The Briscoe's used their strength to
keep House of Truth grounded most of the match. The first true highlight of the
match had Raymond connect with a standing shooting star press of the top rope
for a near fall. The Briscoe's went for the doomsday device and Abel caught Mark
in mid air for a power slam. They got another near fall of that move. Jay finally
picked up the victory after connecting with the Jay driller. |
Match Rating: 4 stars out of 4. This match was the third of the night but just
delivered. This match just gave action from bell to bell. Action never stopped
and I saw many new double team moves. This is the breakout match for House of
Truth in their Ring of Honor careers. The Briscoe's keep showing why they’re
considered one of the best teams on the scene. |
|
MATCH 4: |
Austin Aries vs. Roderick Strong w/ Truth Martini Pick 6 Match |
The beginning of the year ROH introduced a ranking system. Anybody in the top 6
can request a title match. The wrestlers in the top 6 every time their in a
match there spot is up for grabs. The match was very slow in the opening
minutes. The referee ejected Strong’s manager for his involvement in the match.
The pace just picked up fast and furious. Strong just started focusing on the
back with several backbreakers. Aries and Strong were on the top turnbuckle.
Strong dropped Aries back first on the turnbuckle. Strong had Aries in a
vertical suplex and dropped him right over his knees. Strong picked up the
victory after hitting Aries with a yakuza kick. |
Match Rating: 3 ½ stars out of 4. One of the couple single matches on the card.
These guys just went out and delivered a strong match. The company is in good
hands when these guys go out and work their butt off. |
|
MATCH 5: |
All Night Express (Rhett Titus & Kenny King) vs. Jerry Lynn& Delirious |
Another match that has been signed from previous issues with the competitors.
Titus and King got the early advantage and kept it for most of the match. Lynn
and Delirious had momentary control of the match. The lack of time together
wound up costing Lynn and Delirious. The All Night Express were able to use the
ref and double team their opponents. They got the victory after nailing Lynn
with a back breaker and flying knee combo. |
Match Rating: 2 ¾ out of 4 stars. Both teams haven’t worked with each other
before this match. They went out and made it comfortable and put together a
solid match. |
|
MATCH 6: |
The American Wolves vs. El Generico & Colt Cabana |
The final tournament bout of the first round of the show. Cabana and Generico
have recently started tagging together. The wolves are former tag team champions
with ROH. Generico and Cabana got the early advantage within the first couple of
minutes. The Wolves quickly regained control of the match by using their
strikes. Both teams exchanged pin fall attempts in the early minutes of the
match. Richards picked up a near pin fall after connecting with a diving
head butt. Cabana almost picked up a victory when he locked in Richards with his
reverse Boston crab. Finally after couple of minutes Cabana got the victory with
his submission hold. At the same time Generico nailed Richards with his top rope
brainbuster. |
Match Rating: 3 out of 4 stars. The team of Cabana and Generico for the short
time they have been tagging. They have developed into a very solid team that
could advance far into the tournament. The American Wolves are still walking out
in good shape. They just keep delivering in the ring. |
|
MATCH 7: |
Kings of Wrestling (Chris Hero& Claudio Castagnolli) vs The Young Bucks |
The Young Bucks also wrestle for TNA as Generation Me. The Kings of Wrestling
are the current ROH champions. The belts weren’t on the line for this match.
These two teams feature a different style the kings used their strength to their
advantage. The young bucks kept the kings off balance with using there speed and
agility. The Kings got the early advantage and kept it for several minutes. They
made frequent tags in and out. Matt Jackson made a tag and his brother Nick came
in and just cleaned house for couple of minutes. The first highlight was all 4
were in the ring and they just knocked each other out. The Young Bucks were able
to move and hit the kings. Claudio got Matt a airplane spin and built up enough
momentum that he dropped his hands for a couple of seconds. The Kings of
Wrestling picked up the victory after nailing there finisher. |
Match Rating: 3 ½ out of 4 stars. The Young Bucks remind me a lot of the young
Hardy Boys. You never know from what angle they’re coming at you. The Kings just
showed us why they are very tough to beat. They just match up excellent with any
team they face. |
|
MATCH 8: |
Tyler Black vs Kevin Steen ROH World Title Match |
This match was a brawl just from the bell. They action quickly spilled onto the
floor. Both men tasted the ringside barriers early. Steen grabbed control after
Black got busted open on the outside. Black after several minutes got control
again. Black was able to stall Steen at the top rope. Black was able then to
power bomb Steen on the opposite turnbuckles. Steen and Black traded super kicks
to a standstill. Steen went to the top rope and slipped. Steen’s leg was stuck
around the bottom and Black delivered a double stomp on Steen through a table.
Steen is now busted open and it just fueled him for more damage. Steen got a
near fall after connecting with his package pile driver. Black was able to return
the favor with his small package driver. Black finally picked up the victory
with the sharpshooter. |
Match Rating: 3 stars out of 4. This match would have been higher if it was more
technical bout. Tyler Black is just showing that he’s getting better and better
in the ring. Kevin Steen is showing that his career is about to take off. He’s
finally showing how much of a single star he could be. |
|
SHOW RATING: |
A solid 3 ¼ stars out of 4. These guys went out and just left everything in the
ring. The match of the night without a doubt was the Briscoe's and The House of
Truth. If you’re a fan of tag team wrestling than check this event out when it’s
out on dvd. Ring of Honor has once again proved that tag team wrestling isn’t dead. They will
be back on October 16th. |
