Holiday Hours/2015 Hours...
COMICBOOKMAN SEZ: As I write this there are thirteen shopping days and two New Comic Wednesday's (NCW) left before Christmas. Whenever we get down to "holiday crunch time" I run with extended hours and this year is no exception. The actual hours are below but please take special note of the store hours on NCW Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. On Christmas Eve we'll open at 6:00am (an hour earlier) and close at 6:00pm (an hour and a half earlier). We're closed on Christmas Day and closing earlier for Christmas Eve so I'm going to open at 6:00am so everyone gets a chance to get the weeks new releases before the holiday. The following week is a completely different set of variables. New Years Eve is the final New Comic Wednesday for 2014 and as has been the case over the last few years there will only be 10-15 new comic titles on the racks for that week. Because it's such an underwhelming shipping day and it's also New Years Eve we're opening later and closing earlier but just for just that Wednesday. All other changed hours are highlighted in pink below (color may not be visible on some servers)

  At Alternate Reality we order 99.9% of the comics PREVIEWS solicits each month. Keep that in mind as you read the numbers below; they not only break down our week, but they're also a pretty accurate representation of the week in comics nationwide.

Eleven fewer titles making for a $90.00 cheaper week overall for the third shipping week in December. DC retakes the top spot this Wednesday with thirty seven titles (seventeen more than they shipped last week). IDW pulls up in a distant 2nd Place with twenty-eight titles and Image right behind them in 3rd Place with twenty-five titles. The "House of Ideas" comes in 4th Place with twenty-two books and Dynamite is once again in 5th Place with eighteen. Indy Titles see a one third drop this week with only forty-one books, the lowest Indy Comic total we've seen since 11/19/14. Extending out those Indy numbers BOOM! would take 6th Place with eight and Dark Horse would be in 7th Place with six. The only bump in the cost numbers this week comes from Marvel who is 4th in units shipped but 3rd in over all cost for the week. Conversely that puts Image in the position of shipping out more but costing you less. As always we leave the critical analysis of that conundrum up to you to evaluate.

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS: 2014's shipping is rapidly coming to a close as this week (and next) will be the last FULL weeks for the year. Yes Virginia, we will have a New Comic Wednesday on 123114 but it will definitely be "underwhelmingly small". So in this penultimate week we shouldn't be surprised that the weeks 1st Place shipper: DC Comics, is sending out seven Batman Family titles. BATMAN #37, BATMAN AND ROBIN #37, BATMAN ETERNAL #37, BATMAN SUPERMAN #17, BATWOMAN #37, CATWOMAN #37 & RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #37 all arrive this Wednesday. Holy Bat-load! While no where near that size and scope, IDW is double shipping a trio of properties this week. GODZILLA CATACLYSM #5 (OF 5) & GODZILLA RULERS OF THE EARTH #19 both arrive as do TRANSFORMERS DRIFT EMPIRE OF STONE #2 & TRANSFORMERS MORE THAN MEETS EYE #36 and GI JOE #4 & GI JOE A REAL AMERICAN HERO #209. Over at Marvel their outstanding title for the week is AVENGERS NOW an Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe with 64 pages of all-new profiles to bring everyone up to speed on the new faces currently attached to the old names. 2014 will go down as Image's year and our BOOK OF THE WEEK: RUMBLE #1 is yet another example of the creativity they have been pushing all year. It's described as "Louis C.K. meets Robert E. Howard in a David Fincher universe." If you need something to get you into the holiday mood then you may want to check out the FLASH GORDON HOLIDAY SPECIAL 2014. What could be more festive than stories about: Flash and Zarkov teaching the Aborians (the tree people) about Christmas, an abandoned Beast-Man being helped by a Jewish family during Hanukkah and Dale Arden ringing in the New Year on the violent and frigid Frigia. Look, they're trying-OKAY?!?!  Around the Indy Pit, Titan offers up CAPTAIN STONE #1 which tells the tale of a lost hero and an apocalyptic prophecy that only he can solve. Also from Titan is MONO #1 an ape-human hybrid secret agent and assassin for the Queen who has been in the service of the Empire since the Boer War. HARBINGER FAITH #0 at Valiant spotlights the stereotype shattering super heroine Faith Hebert. BOOM! bring us ROCKET SALVAGE #1, a dysfunctional family drama about three clones running a rocket ship repair shop. And finally if you like zombies parodying Disney you may want to check out Antarctic Press' latest zombie offering: ZOMBIE FAIRY TALES UNDEAD THE SEA which features a little mermaid whose having trouble keeping he body parts from falling off.
