There are two major westerns planned for television and the theater. Fargo’s
Joel and Ethan Coen are working on an anthology event series set in the Old West
called The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. The brothers have written the script which
may have six different story lines. Until the project progresses it doesn’t have
a network yet. Kevin Costner has a much more massive project planned for the big
screen. He told Vulture: “I have another Western I’ve co-written with some
people, and I would like to play out the second half of my career directing
more. I’ve constantly given the movies I’ve found to directors who I thought
could do it better, but there are a lot of voices in my ear from my family
saying, ‘You need to direct the movies you fall in love with.’ So I think I
will.” But he says the project is about 10 hours long so he will either make
three films that would come out six months apart and if that doesn’t work then
he will find a network willing to run it like say Netflix. |
