Baron
Corbin isn’t a fan of WWE doctor Joseph Maroon. Maroon had been brought in to
talk with the roster about the importance of concussion-related injuries and why
injuries should be reported immediately. During the meeting, Maroon brought up a
recent study on deceased NFL players who had been diagnosed with CTE (Chronic
Traumatic Encephalopathy) and downplayed it as being proof that anyone who
played football would then develop CTE. Since Corbin played college football and
had a short NFL career he cut Maroon off and questioned what everyone was being
told. Corbin argued that there would always be some form of head trauma since
football helmets are constantly connecting during every play. He also revealed
he is part of a concussion-related lawsuit against the NFL and questioned
Maroon’s beliefs against CTE. The portrayal of Maroon in the 2015’s Concussion
movie with Will Smith suggested so but Maroon told the talent that his depiction
in that movie was incorrect. He did agree with Corbin that CTE was a problem but
he was trying to make the point that the study did not mean 99% of NFL players
had CTE. The two went back and forth then ended. Some at the meeting have
described it as awkward since it made the meeting so longer than it had to and
thought that Corbin could have expressed his beliefs with Maroon after the
meeting. The fact that he did speak out did impress some talent in the meeting. |
