According
to The Hollywood Reporter NBC/Universal will bring back WWE Raw with a huge rate
increase but will not renew WWE SmackDown. The rights deal will triple what the
WWE has been getting. Possible homes for SmackDown were Fox, Amazon and Facebook
but two days after the Raw deal was leaked out The Hollywood Reporter broke the
story that WWE made a five-year deal with Fox worth $205 million per year. WWE
was actually offered more for SmackDown but the network promised to push the
show with ads during all their sports programming. SmackDown will begin airing
on Fox in the fall of 2019 in a Friday night timeslot. It isn’t clear whether
the show will be live or taped but WWE does house shows on Friday and I don’t
think Fox is paying for a taped show. |
