The Fate of the Furious ended teasing a team-up and possible spin-off film involving Dwayne Johnson’s Agent Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw characters. That will be the next film in the franchise. Series screenwriter Chris Morgan is working on the script that could have the two on the hunt for Charlize Theron’s Cypher character. Once that film is done then production will start on Fast 9. Issues between Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson have been worked out but there were and are issues between Johnson and Tyrese Gibson since the spin-off means the ninth film may not be out until 2020. Diesel was against the spin off at first but agreed to let it happen. Since he is going through a troubling divorce Gibson needed the money sooner rather than later. Johnson is willing to have actors from the franchise appear in the spin off and is taking the high road. One of the films will have Helen Mirren in it but she says she will only be interested if she is allowed to drive a car. There is one more possible issue that can affect the production of Fast 9 and that’s due to Michelle Rodriguez wanting more to do in any planned sequels.
