It
all started on a Friday. First Netflix announced it was canceling Iron Fist then
a week later they cancelled Luke Cage. The Iron Fist announcement said that the
show was over but the immortal Iron Fist would live on. There were plans being
laid out for Luke Cage season three but because of creative differences and an
inability to agree to terms for a third season the show just ended. Finn Jones
told fans that he would be back but Mike Colter said he thinks he was done
playing Cage. Then Netflix cancelled Daredevil after three seasons. Netflix made
a statement that "while the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing
seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil
character will live on in future projects for Marvel." Then Marvel released this
statement, "We look forward to more adventures with the Man Without Fear in the
future." Amy Rutberg, who portrayed lawyer and Foggy Nelson love interest Marci
Stahl told the website Inverse, "We had heard rumors we would start production
as early as February 2019. It’s a little unusual to be that far ahead in the
planning and cancel the show, which makes me think Netflix was laboring over
whether or not to cancel it." She thinks that it was a Netflix decision to
cancel the show instead of Marvel Television since Marvel was looking for a five
season run. When the announcements were made all thought that the shows would
move to the new Disney+ streaming service but that’s not the case. The deal for
the original four Marvel shows includes a clause that stops the characters from
showing up in any non-Netflix series or film for at least two years after
cancellation. So the earliest Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist could come to
Disney+ in any form is 2020 at the earliest. If Jessica Jones is cancelled after
season three she couldn’t appear again until 2021. The Punisher, since it wasn’t
part of the original deal can move anytime the producers like. Punisher season
two will adapt the Suicide Run arc, which saw Frank Castle nearly dying in an
explosion trying to take out a huge part of New York’s crime bosses and ending
up in a small town in Pennsylvania. Season two will add Georgia Wigham, Josh
Stewart, Floriana Lima, Annette O’Toole and Corbin Bernson to the cast alongside
Jon Bernthal, Ben Barnes, Amber Rose Revah and Jason R. Moore. In other Disney+
news the streaming service is doing a Vision and the Scarlet Witch, Loki, Nick
Fury and a Falcon/Winter Soldier series. Each series starring the actors from
the films will run six to eight episodes with a sizeable budget. Disney CEO Bob
Iger says the new service will cost somewhere between $8-14 per month. |
