DeConnick Strips Down Aquaman to Rebuild Him |
In
the first five issues of Kelly Sue DeConnick’s run on Aquaman, she stripped him
of his memories but in #48 those memories are starting to come back. In #50 the
Jackson Hyde Aqualad will appear. #50 will also feature a visit by Lex Luthor to
Black Manta as a tie in to the Year of the Villain event. DeConnick wanted to
re-establish Aquaman, set the tone of the book and set up his role is in the DC
Universe in her first arc. Mother Shark was who revealed three things to Aquaman
in her role as a gatekeeper. Everything that dies in the oceans passes through
Mother Shark to get to the afterworld so she takes your memories from you to
build her coral garden. Those memories remain after you are gone to feed the
ocean. But when Aquaman arrived she stripped him of his memories and sent him to
the ocean gods to see if he was a worthy champion and he proved himself to them.
And he will now return to Atlantis where Mera has been tasked with finding a
regent. Jackson Hyde and Aquaman will discover each other in #50 and Hyde will
be a regular part of the cast living in Amnesty Bay. Black Manta when we see him
believes that he has all he wants but Luthor will show him that he is wrong in
#50.
